Two people are in custody after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase that ended when their SUV crashed into a tree in the Boston Branch neighborhood on Signal Mountain.

The chase began shortly after Soddy-Daisy police pulled the pair over early Monday afternoon as they were driving a Dodge Durango. After police officers realized the vehicle was stolen, the two suspects took off, leading police officers in a chase up Roberts Mill Road, police said.

The pair reportedly crashed through the entry gate at Boston Branch and drove through the neighborhood. Residents, many of whom were enjoying a Labor Day cookout in a neighbor’s back yard, said they could hear sirens before a loud crash. The SUV lost control and crashed into a tree around a turn near the dam, police said.

It was not clear if anyone was injured in the crash. Hamilton County’s 911 dispatch service called for EMS vehicles, and neighbors said they saw two ambulances leave the scene.
