Rossville police arrested Kenneth Wayne Goines on Monday night after he allegedly pointed a gun at a man in a dispute over a stolen laptop.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Nakota Luke Petet was walking down Indian Avenue with Michelle Case when Goines and his wife pulled up in a car. Petet used to live with the Goineses, and the couple yelled at him, accusing him of stealing their laptop.

Petet said he denied the allegation. Then, Goines pulled out a Smith & Wesson .38 Special and threatened to shoot him. Petet said he pushed Case out of the way and yelled that he was going to call 911. Goines drove away.

Case backed up this version of events, according to the arrested warrant affidavit.

While an officer talked to Case, Goines drove by on James Street. An officer then pulled him over. Though he had the gun on him, Goines denied threatening anybody with it. His wife said Petet was a “thief and a liar.”

Rossville police charged Goines with aggravated assault for pointing the gun at Petet. At the same time, they also arrested Petet. The Walker County Sheriff’s Office had taken a warrant out against him for failing to appear in court. A DUI case against him from November 2015 is still pending.
