Howell Peoples, who served as Hamilton County chancellor for 32 years, died on Aug. 10. He was 75.
In 2010, Peoples announced his retirement in a letter to then-Gov.Phil Bredesen.
“I am grateful to the citizens of Hamilton County who have allowed me to serve as judge for the past 32 years,” he said at the time. “During my tenure, I have been blessed to have Chancellors Wilkes T. Thrasher, Jr., R. Vann Owens, and W. Frank Brown III as colleagues, and to be supported by the wonderful employees of the Hamilton County Clerk & Master.”
Arrangements are being handled by Aycock Funeral Home in Fort Pierce, Florida. A memorial service will take place at the Hamilton County Courthouse at a later time.
