UPDATE: The driver killed in the crash was identified as Ellen L. Hudson of Ooltewah.
One person was killed late Friday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on Snowhill Road, according to a news release from the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies and traffic investigators responded to the 6900 block of Snowhill Road in Ooltewah after receiving a report of the crash at about 5:45 p.m.
According to a preliminary investigation, a Honda CRV was traveling northbound when it traveled off the right side of the road, across the shoulder, into a ditch, and then proceeded back onto the roadway, where it eventually rotated and traveled into the opposite lane of traffic, striking a Chrysler Pacifica.
The driver of the Honda was unresponsive and was transported to a local medical facility, where the he or she was pronounced dead. The deceased's name was being withheld until family members could be notified.
The driver of the Chrysler sustained injuries that were not considered life-threatening, the release states.
"The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by the HCSO Traffic Division," the release reads.
No further details were made available.
