Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Hammond says he raised more than $70,000 in the most recent campaign reporting period that ended Jan. 15.
Hammond is seeking his third term as sheriff. He has no opposition so far in the May 1 Republican primary. The only other sheriff candidate so far is Democrat Victor Miller. The filing deadline is Feb. 15.
Hammond’s report said he raised $70,342.18 and spent $32,626.47, leaving him with a balance of $51,354.64.
In a news release, Hammond said 142 donors gave to his campaign in the period.
“It is tremendously humbling to have a great base of support,” Hammond said.
“Our campaign is already working to meet voters and hear their concerns while sharing the vision for the next few years ahead to best serve our citizens.”
He said his campaign is driven by critical issues facing the county, such as the transition and completion of the Hamilton County jail system, and working with community groups, social services and health care to identify mentally ill people in jail and getting them proper treatment.
“Personal and public safety are always my absolute priorities and those great men and women of our Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office each and every day. As your Sheriff, I am also charged with key administrative issues that are so very important to taxpayers which have a direct impact on our ability to address crime and recidivism,” Hammond said in the release.
Miller’s campaign finance report showed he had raised $4,225, including $1,500 from his own pocket, and spent $2,020.70, for a balance of $2,204.30.
