Youth actors of Christian Family Theater will present “The Audition” in shows at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, July 20-21, at Brainerd United Methodist Church, 4315 Brainerd Road.
The plot focuses on a new theater teacher who is bringing a musical production to school. Though the hopeful students auditioning range from shy to outrageous, diva-like to determined, everyone has a chance to step into the spotlight.
“It’s done in the style of ‘A Chorus Line,’ where the actors all have meaningful monologues talking about their lives and struggles at home and school, but the content is appropriate for school-age children,” says director Dale Dye.
Storylines touch on absent parents, school bullying, helicopter parents, divas, unrequited love and more. They are played out in scenes that are sometimes hilarious and other times dramatic, Dye says.
Parents are advised this show has a lot of comedy and fun, but it also has some intense dramatic scenes dealing with topics such as difficult home lives and bullying.
Tickets are $12 at the door and seating is general admission.
