Lady Liberty would weep for today’s U.S.A.
She stands 151 feet tall, head to foot, another 151 feet or so too, when you measure the torch she boldly and blessedly bears high above her head, one that represents light, empathy and compassion. Values we as humans would all be blessed to embrace.
“Give me your poor, your tired, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,” she screams from her brave heart, carved on the granite on which she stands.
“Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me. I lift my lamp beside the golden door.”
She is an American icon, a mighty statue, a symbol of humanity at its finest. She is also an immigrant. Sent from a foreign country. A gift from France.
