Summer thunderstorms and heavy rain are passing through the tri-state area Thursday, causing localized flooding and increased dangers for drivers.

In Athens, Tenn., city officials have closed Atlantic Street and Sweetfield Valley Road due to high water, according to a news release from the city manager, and a number of McMinn County roads are flooded as well.

Forecasters anticipate more rain, possibly damaging winds and lightning throughout the day and into Thursday evening.
