A semitractor-trailer collided with a train near the Birmingham Highway at Wauhatchie Pike area Tuesday afternoon.
The semitrailer was hauling paper, Chattanooga Fire Department spokesman Bruce Garner said.
Garner said Chattanooga police report that the train is blocking Wauhatchie Pike at both ends and traffic is stranded between crossings.
The fire department is assisting with a fluid cleanup.
