The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wrestling program has one man remaining in the NCAA championships at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio: Southern Conference wrestler of the year Bryce Carr.

Carr lost a 6-3 overtime decision Thursday to Lock Haven’s Corey Hazel – his third OT loss in two NCAA tournament appearances – but won 7-1 Thursday night over Minnesota’s Brandon Krone and will compete again today in the 184-pound class. Carr had two takedowns, a reversal and an escape against Krone.

Against Hazel he led 3-0 after an escape and a takedown in the second period but gave up a reversal with 13 seconds to go in the period. Hazel then tied it in the third with an escape and had an escape and a takedown in the second tiebreaker period for the win.

UTC 125-pounder Alonzo Allen earned a 10-9 first-round victory over Cal State Bakersfield’s Sergio Mendez but dropped his next two matches – on a technical fall to Iowa’s Spencer Lee and a 16-11 decision to South Dakota State’s Connor Brown.

At 197, the Mocs’ Scottie Boykin dropped a 4-1 decision to Lehigh’s Chris Weller, with Weller scoring on an escape and a takedown in the final seconds, and then was eliminated with a 3-1 loss Thursday night to Army’s Rocco Kaywood.
