A pedestrian was killed Saturday night on Hixson Pike while attempting to cross the road.

Chattanooga police said in a statement issued Sunday that the pedestrian, who was not named pending notification of family, was struck by a Ford F-150 pickup truck that was traveling north in the fast lane of the 5400 block of Hixson Pike just after 10 p.m.

The driver, 66-year-old Francis Lamonica, told police he was unsure what collided with his truck and he stopped at the scene, police said.

Ambulance crews responded to the scene to transport the victim to a local hospital where that person died from the injuries sustained.

Chattanooga police are continuing to investigate the accident.
