A Chattanooga woman was arrested Tuesday after a video showing her smashing the driver’s side window of a tow truck went viral earlier this month.
The video, uploaded to Facebook on Nov. 15, shows Cathleen Reeves yelling at the tow truck driver and swinging a baseball bat at the window, completely shattering it and causing minor injuries to the driver.
The driver was attempting to repossess her gray Nissan Altima for a finance company, according to court records. As he was rigging Reeves’ vehicle to the tow truck, Reeves came out and “became irate,” the driver told police.
She attempted to pull the driver out of the vehicle and struck him in the face with her elbow, court records state. He wasn’t injured at the time, but he started recording the incident on his cellphone and retreated to the cab of the truck to avoid being hit again.
But Reeves continued to yell at the driver, demanding he unhook her car. She then retrieved a baseball bat from the trunk of her car and began swinging it at the driver’s side window where the driver was located, according to court records.
The glass shattered and lacerated the driver’s nose and drew blood, court records show. She also caused damage to the driver’s door frame.
Even after the window was shattered, Reeves continued swinging the bat inside the tow truck, court records state. The driver had to shift to the passenger side to avoid a direct hit from the baseball bat.
The driver finally gave in to Reeves’ demands and unhooked her car. She then fled the scene before police arrived.
A neighbor also recorded the incident and posted it to Facebook, which officers used to further corroborate the driver’s claims.
Reeves was arrested on Tuesday, just under two weeks later, and charged with aggravated assault and vandalism/malicious mischief. She was booked into the Hamilton County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
