Workers in six Georgia counties are eligible for federal jobless benefits to compensate for income lost as a direct result of Hurricane Michael. The affected counties are Baker, Decatur, Dougherty, Early, Miller and Seminole.
“The heavy damage that resulted from last week’s storm forced businesses to close for repairs, leaving owners and employees without incomes,” Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Monday. “These federal benefits help provide a financial bridge until their incomes resume.”
Disaster unemployment assistance is a federal program established to help workers whose primary income is lost, or interrupted, as a direct result of a disaster declared by the President.
Applicants may be eligible for a weekly benefit of as much as $330 beginning the week of Oct. 14.

The new store, scheduled to open May 28, will be the fifth for Molly Green since the clothing retailer opened its first store in May 2011. Molly Green also has stores at Cool Springs Galleria in Franklin, Opry Mills Mall in Nashville, the Mall at Green Hills in Nashville and Riverchase Galleria in Hoover, Alabama.

The Cheesecake Factory will also be open in time for the holidays.
“We’re excited to add such a unique store as Molly Green to our offerings at Hamilton Corner,” said Taylor Hartley, Hamilton Place marketing director. “We know shoppers will be as thrilled as we are with the fashion-forward and fun styling they offer.”
Military bases may export coal
The Trump administration is considering using West Coast military bases or other federal properties as transit points for shipments of U.S. coal and natural gas to Asia, as officials seek to bolster the domestic energy industry and circumvent environmental opposition to fossil fuel exports.
The proposal was described to The Associated Press by Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke and two Republican lawmakers.
It would advance the administration’s agenda of establishing American “energy dominance” on the world stage and underscores a willingness to intervene in markets to make that happen. But a Democratic senator from Oregon and environmentalists blasted the proposal as undercutting local communities opposed to fossil fuel exports.
Zinke cast the move as a matter of national security to ensure U.S. allies have access to affordable fuels. The Trump administration also has cited national security as justification for keeping domestic coal-burning power plants online to prevent disruptions of electricity supplies.
