Dallas Bay firefighters saved a family cat from a house fire this morning in Lakesite, Chief Markus Fritts said.
The cat was alone in the home on Dallas Place when volunteer firefighters arrived just after 8 a.m. to see heavy smoke coming from the front of the house, Fritts said in a news release. They were alerted by a 911 call from a Chattanooga police officer.
The Dallas Bay crew called for mutual aid and the Red Bank Fire Department responded, he said.
When firefighters broke windows to ventilate the home, “flames came pouring out the front windows,” Fritts said. One firefighter went inside to put out the blaze and search for victims. The cat was rescued without injury.
The cause of the fire is undetermined and will be under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office, Fritts said. Damages are listed at $60,000.
