Ooltewah residents Kelly and David Grob have opened a CycleBar studio in East Brainerd – the first location of the indoor cycling franchise in Southeast Tennessee.

After taking a class at the Knoxville location, the couple fell in love with the brand, the workout and the instructors, said David.

“They really know how to party on the bike and ride to the beat,” he said of the instructors, whom CycleBar calls CycleStars.

Riders can choose from three different workouts designed to fit the needs of people of all fitness levels, said David.

CycleBar’s 45-minute Classic workout is a high-intensity interval workout on the studio’s custom Schwinn bikes, which feature 4- and 6-pound bars in special holsters that riders lift to get a full-body workout. Class instruction is accompanied by a light show that creates an atmosphere David described as “disco on a bike.” Performance stats are projected on large flat-screen TVs at the front of the studio, increasing riders’ motivation as they pedal to custom CycleBeats playlists. Stats from the ride, including calories burned, power level and distance, are texted or emailed to riders after class, along with the ride’s unique CycleBeats playlist.
