After many complaints about a major crack in U.S. Highway 41 near Haletown, Tennessee, the Tennessee Department of Transportation is limiting traffic to a single lane while it attempts to stabilize the roadway in Marion County.

TDOT spokeswoman Jennifer Flynn said in an email that maintenance personnel have been working unsuccessfully for several days to stabilize a section of U.S. 41 at mile 25.6 and the closure is needed for safety.

Flynn said TDOT geotechnical engineers have assessed the area to determine what is occurring and to come up with a possible solution for repair. Until the repairs can be made, traffic will be reduced to one lane and controlled by a temporary traffic signal for the safety of the traveling public. This traffic pattern will be in place until further notice.

Motorists are urged to use caution as they travel through this area, Flynn said.
