At least two downtown Chattanooga businesses were vandalized overnight Tuesday, according to Chattanooga police and business owners.
Police were called to the Miller Brothers building, located at 629 Market Street, at around 10 a.m. Tuesday morning, according to a police report. Four windows – two large and two small – were damaged.
Two of them were facing West 7th Street and the other two faced Market Street.
The Chicken Salad Chick restaurant is one of the businesses to receive the damage, according to business owners. And the Elliot Davis accounting firm is said to be the second business.
The damage was believed to be caused by a pellet or BB gun, police noted, though they could not be certain.
“I knew people loved our chicken salad and people will go to many lengths to get our amazing [from] scratch made chicken salad,” said Josh Patton, owner of Chicken Salad Chick.
Photos provided to the Times Free Press showed large shattered windows, including one with a small hole.
Only one pane of the double-paned windows had been damaged. On Tuesday evening, the damaged pane had been removed and blue construction tape was used to secure the edges.
Patton said the window was shattered when staff arrived Tuesday morning.
Interior security footage shows the window shatter at around 2:15 a.m., he said. But there isn’t much information about what happened or why.
“We’re happy there were no injuries, and know that Chattanooga Police Department will continue to increase the safety in the downtown community,” Patton said.
Other business owners have reported similar vandalism taking place in the general area, including thefts of shrubs that had been recently planted.
Patton reiterated that customer safety is his business’ top priority, noting the building has onsite security.
Police have not confirmed any suspects at this time.
