A Hixson home was damaged in an afternoon fire Wednesday.
Responding to a call from a neighbor around 1:20 p.m. at a vacant home in the 1800 block of Bay Hill Drive, crews with the Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department found heavy fire on the front door and porch area, according to a news release. There was also heavy fire downstairs and heavy smoke upstairs.
Because of the the extreme hot temperatures, Dallas Bay requested additional manpower. The Chattanooga Fire Department responded.
Fire officials believe the fire started downstairs in the home but the cause is unknown. No injuries were reported.
The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office is investigating.
Hamilton County EMS was on the scene to check firefighters for heat exhaustion.
