Our County Commission inflicted a severe blow to all of our students attending public schools when it voted down a property tax increase for our schools.

So many great improvements have occurred in our community, including the economic boom over the last 10 years, redevelopment of the river, downtown and Southside, to name a few; great leadership in both heads of government; and the first superintendent of Hamilton County Schools who gained the support of the business community, nonprofit sectors, majority of grassroots/faith organizations and government officials.

I thought we had turned the corner in the right direction, but I guessed wrong.

We had one former school board member, now on the commission, do the right thing for our kids and for the many new employers who desperately need a well-equipped workforce to hire for the many new jobs they created in our community.

Thank you, Commissioner Chip Baker, for doing the right thing for our kids and the entire community.
