More than 30 residents displaced after Dalton apartment fire

The Dalton Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 1306 Underwood Street Sunday around 2:09 a.m., according to a news release.

When crews arrived, they found fire coming from two units and the attic of the Underwood Lodge apartments. The Dalton Police Department also responded to the incident and found no injuries.

Two-and-a-half units have fire damage with several more reported to have smoke and water damage, the release states.

Thirty-eight residents have been displaced and the Red Cross is working to assist with four of the residents, according to Dalton police.

As of Monday, Jan. 6, investigators ruled the fire to be accidental. The fire started in the second floor of the apartment building according to Bruce Frazier, City of Dalton Communications Director.
