Chattanooga police have arrested a suspect in the Wednesday hit-and-run killing of a bicyclist on the 6400 block of Shallowford Road, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Police Department.

Troy Austin Maples, 23, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death, failure to render aid, failure to report an accident and driving on a suspended license. He is currently in custody at the Hamilton County Jail.

Thomas Raines, 33, was riding a bicycle on the eastbound lane of the road when he was struck from behind by a vehicle shortly after 12 a.m., according to police. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

Community members provided tips for CPD traffic investigators and neighboring officers in order to find Maples and the 2014 Nissan Sentra involved in the incident, the release states.
