The confirmation of a case of COVID-19 in the Walker County Tax Commissioner’s office in Rock Spring, Georgia, has led to the closure of the Tax and Tag office within the building for the rest of the week, officials said in a statement on the Walker County government website.

“All team members have been sent for COVID-19 testing, and the office is being deep cleaned,” county spokesman Joe Legge said in the statement. “We appreciate your patience while we work to protect the health and safety of our staff and the public.”

The Fairview office on McFarland Avenue remains closed, officials said.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the Georgia Department of Public Health reported 96 positive cases of COVID-19 in Walker County. Of those 96, 44 positive cases came from antibody test results between April 20 and April 22.

The state has since stopped including positive test results from antibody tests in the state total but has not yet stopped including antibody tests in the total test count.

As of Friday, 65,200 antibody tests were included in the state’s total. Nancy Nydam, spokesperson with the department of health, said the state has included about 3,910 positive cases from antibody tests in the state’s total.

Walker County officials said business related to taxes and tags can continue to be conducted by mail or online, and residents are asked to make sure to include a working phone number on any paperwork sent to the office in case additional information is needed to complete transactions, according to Legge. Motor vehicle registration also can be done online through the state’s website.

Residents are also reminded that tag renewals due March 16 through June 14 have been automatically extended until June 15, 2020, officials said.
