Welcome to School Report! Last week, rising COVID-19 cases sent students and faculty into quarantine in several Northwest Georgia school districts, while the first full week of school and first school board meeting of the semester in Hamilton County drew differing opinions from parents and community members on the district’s mask policy.
As of Monday morning, 2,063 Hamilton County Schools students, or about 4.69% of the district’s 44,000 students, have active COVID-19 cases or are active close contacts, according to the district’s data dashboard.
The Hamilton County Board of Education approved a virtual education program for students quarantining due to COVID-19 last week, following State Board of Education policy. If you have a student currently in quarantine and want to share your experience with virtual learning this year, please email me at achaturvedi@timesfreepress.com.
