Cole McCormick's scoring prowess helped Notre Dame take control early to start the Smokey Mountain Christmas Classic in Gatlinburg.
The versatile 6-foot-4 sophomore guard scored 16 first-half points to lead the Irish to a 61-43 win over Fairview (Ky.). DJ Brown also was sharp as Notre Dame improved to 9-3 overall.
Jackson County 48, Bradley Central 43: The Bears fought back with a 24-point fourth quarter, but could not climb back from a 13 point deficit. Brandon Shumbera led Bradley with 14 points.
Bledsoe County 57, Sale Creek 42: Five different Warriors scored at least seven points while Garrett Tharpe scored a team-high 12 points.
Girls
Notre Dame 46, Russell County 32: Stingy defense led the Lady Irish to their ninth straight win and improve to 10-3 overall. Senior Kenzie Campbell scored 12 points while freshman guard Maliyah Maples made two 3-pointers and finished with 10 points.
Ringgold 39, Northwest Whitfield 27: The Lady Tigers improved to 9-2 with the nonregion win at the Mistletoe Madness Tournament at North Murray as Rachel Lopez had 10 points and three assists.
