Your Tuesday at a glance:

  • Weather: High 53; partly cloudy
  • What to eat: This comforting, thick, creamy, vegetarian soup. Here’s a quick recipe for butternut squash soup.
  • What to do: Get in on the trend. The pandemic is continuing to feed demand for backyard chickens.
  • What we’re excited about: Lorelei Grace Blevins, Chattanooga’s first baby of the new year.

Greetings, Chattanooga!

I haven’t seen my cat since September, which is when my mother took her home to Kentucky to pet sit for a “few weeks.” But as COVID-19 cases began climbing, we kept postponing our reunion. Now, my mother has begun saying things like, “I hope you don’t think Sookie has gotten fat when you see her.” And I wonder if my cat even wants to come home.

Indeed, 10 months into our quarantines – for better or worse – our relationships with our pets have changed. Here, Dan Sewell writes more about it.

And now, a few recent stories:

Tennessee has launched a hotline for older adults feeling isolated during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tennessee State Parks saw a record number of campers in 2020.

And, meet Derek “Tank” Schottle, the Special Olympian spreading a message of love.
