John Metchie could be face of Alabama football in 2021

Throughout Alabama's 2020 national championship football season, sophomore receiver John Metchie was viewed as a developing talent.

Moving forward, Metchie could be the face of the program.

The 6-foot, 195-pounder from Brampton, Canada, took his share of the pie from Alabama's 621-yard performance during Monday night's 52-24 thrashing of Ohio State in Miami Gardens, Florida, racking up eight receptions for 81 yards. Metchie finished this past season with 55 catches for 916 yards and six touchdowns, with his yardage total ranking 17th nationally.

"John Metchie played outstanding football for us all year," Alabama coach Nick Saban said Tuesday on a Zoom call. "He's got a lot of grit and toughness, because he's had a bad ankle for about the last half of the season. He actually didn't practice one play for all the practices we had for this last game other than the walk-throughs, and then he goes out and plays extremely well in the game.
