A suspect has been arrested in connection with a stabbing in Dalton, Georgia, that sent a woman to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to a news release from the Dalton Police Department.

Shaquae Robinson, 27, was arrested Tuesday shortly after the incident took place around 8:30 a.m. near the 500 block of Straight Street.

The victim, 58-year-old Tracy Almaraz-Martinez, was in surgery in Chattanooga as of Tuesday afternoon.

Investigators determined that the victim had been allowing Robinson, who is homeless, to stay in her home and was throwing him out. Witnesses told investigators that the victim blocked the door with her body and told Robinson that he was not allowed back inside, and Robinson responded by "stabbing the victim in her neck," the news release states.

Robinson fled the scene on foot and was later located by Dalton officers, arrested and has since been charged with aggravated assault, although more charges are possible. Emergency services personnel took the victim to Hamilton Medical Center, then airlifted her to another local hospital to be treated.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
