Local gas prices drop last week
Chattanooga gas prices fell 4.8 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.75 per gallon on Monday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 170 stations in Chattanooga.
Gas prices in Chattanooga are 2.1 cents per gallon lower than a month but are 90.8 cents per gallon higher than a year ago when the pandemic depressed driving and fuel consumption. Chattanooga gas prices remained 32 cents per gallon below the U.S. average of $3.07 per gallon for regular fuel.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Chattanooga Monday was at the Walmart store at 8101 East Brainerd Road, which was selling regular gas for $2.51 a gallon. The lowest price gas Monday in Tennessee is at ABC Convenience Store on U.S. Highway 411 in Madisonville, Tennessee where regular fuel was priced at $2.09 a gallon.
“We’ve seen the national average gas price continue to inch higher as oil prices have reached $71 per barrel, the highest since 2018, as gasoline demand continues to rebound,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. “With most additional supply being gobbled up very quickly, gas prices will likely stay at elevated levels for the foreseeable future.”
