Fear is normal
Sometimes I wonder what kind of person I’d be if I wasn’t a health care journalist.
Admittedly, I didn’t care much about my health when I was in my teens and early 20s, which is also normal for young people. But when I started studying the data and learning more about chronic and infectious diseases, I started prioritizing things like my annual physical and flu shot, even though to this day I still despise needles. If it wasn’t for my job, I’m certain that I wouldn’t be immersed in so much evidence-based information about the COVID-19 vaccines and very well could fall victim to the rampant misinformation that’s out there.
That’s why this week my coverage focused on explaining the science behind some common fears and misconceptions surrounding the vaccines. I hope these stories will serve as resources for those of you who have questions about vaccines or to share with your friends and family.
Stay healthy,
