The Bradley County Commission voted 11-3 Monday to increase school board members’ salaries by $100 per month.

The board voted for a substitute motion by Commissioner Mike Hughes that lowers initial raise amounts proposed by Commissioner Thomas Crye last week, which would have increased board member salaries by 167-200%.

Hughes’ substitute motion will increase a regular board member’s salary from $200 to $300 per month and the chairperson’s salary from $300 to $400 per month.

Hughes said he was fine with keeping the rest of the initial resolution the same, including raising board of education members’ salaries at the same percentage as other Bradley County employees each year beginning in July 2022.

Hughes told the commission chairman, Johnny Mull, that he has the utmost respect for the school board, and his proposal was a compromise that would made his constituents happy.
