Before we go, here’s your random trivia of the day:
In 1987, Indiana tried to legislate the value of pi. Representatives wanted its value changed from 3.14 to 3.2.
To make a long story short, the bill was introduced after an amateur mathematician believed he had figured out a better way to define a circle. However, he came to this conclusion using imprecise versions of important measurements, including pi, which he’d rounded to 3.2.
Though his equation was wrong, he managed to convince a state representative, who introduced the bill – which, of course, did not pass. But if it had – today, we would be celebrating Pi Day.
