The Boys & Girls Club of Chattanooga will be getting an update thanks to 100 Hometowns, a $10 million program created by Lowe’s to celebrate its 100th anniversary. Country star and Chattanooga-area native Kane Brown was on hand last week to meet with associates at the Hixson Lowe’s where he used to work and to visit the East Lake club to discuss plans for its remodel as part of the program’s launch.

As part of the celebration, Lowe’s is asking people around the country to nominate a hometown project in need of restoration and share their hometown stories. Lowe’s will award the grants in June to help recipients “complete projects to build, repair, beautify, inspire and improve 100 communities across America with the goal of completing the projects this year.”

Brown didn’t meet with kids at the club because they are in school, but plans to when he returns for the re-opening this summer.

“My community in Chattanooga has always been there for me, and I’m so excited to give back to my hometown this summer with Lowe’s,” Brown said in a news release.

“We will be making renovations and repairs that will help the East Lake Boys & Girls Club continue to be the ‘home away from home’ for youth. This club is incredibly special – despite facing many challenges in 2020 due to COVID, they still found ways to support and uplift its neighbors during an incredibly difficult time for everyone.”
