Junior ace Hailey Leslie is nearly a lock to give Walker Valley’s softball team at least a fighting chance in every game she pitches. On Friday, she made sure the Lady Mustangs didn’t have to fight too hard at the plate or in the field.
Leslie started the postseason by throwing a six-inning no-hitter as Walker Valley beat McMinn County 10-0 in the first round of the TSSAA District 5-AAA tournament.
Leslie has been a star for the Lady Mustangs (24-8) as she is now 16-3 with a 0.61 ERA (92 innings, eight earned runs) and 140 strikeouts this season.
Walker Valley senior Michelle Benson tripled twice and drove in four runs Friday, while Grace Martin homered and drove in two runs.
Soddy-Daisy 9, Bradley Central 3: The Lady Trojans broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the sixth as Courtney Sneed had a two-run single and Taylor Lloyd capped the big inning with a two-run homer. Sneed drove in a game-high three runs and had a multihit day along with Hope Ingle, Tatum Massengale, Regan Rowan and Lloyd, who struck out 10 in relief for the victory.
