Good morning, Chattanooga!
Whether it’s for special effects, a special event or just a normal day, Chattanooga area makeup artists showcase their creativity using the human body as a canvas.
“I like to play with a lot of different colors,” says Elea Xylem, who studied graphic design and painting at the University of Tennessee. “When I put on makeup, it’s like putting on my personality for the day.”
Sophie Stark started learning the techniques of special effects makeup while she was a student at Signal Mountain High School. And Summer Sheldon is a stylist who enjoys going from the extreme to the everyday, each face a work of art.
“Sometimes you hear people say, ‘Don’t cover yourself up with makeup.’ But I think it enhances beauty,” Sheldon said. “You have so many colors to play with. Your eyes are a palette; your lips are a palette. Your face is my canvas.”
