MACON, Ga. (AP) - The grandmother of a 4-year-old boy who was shot and killed in her home has been arrested in connection with the case.

Kawana Liggins, 50, of Macon, faces a charge of tampering with evidence, WMAZ-TV reported. It was unknown whether Liggins has an attorney who could speak on her behalf.

Bibb County sheriff's deputies responded to a call around 8:30 p.m. about a child shot at Pendleton Homes in Macon, the sheriff's office said in a news release. Macon-Bibb Coroner Leon Jones identified the child as Kameron Ross, and said he was visiting his grandmother. Ross was taken to the Medical Center, Atrium Health Navicent where he died just before 9:30 p.m.

The sheriff's office said Ross found a gun in the apartment and accidently shot himself. Investigators said the gun was later found to belong to a 14- and 16-year-old living in the home. The two teenagers have since been released into the custody of other family.

The case remains under investigation and additional charges are pending.
