Why we write
I have a chest full of diaries dating back to the fifth grade, the well-worn pages chronicling my adolescent crushes, my fights with best friends and my ongoing quest to be popular.
Embarrassing as they may be (seriously, some of those entries still make me flinch), I love that I have these records of myself. It’s why I write: to document the moments, big or small, that feel significant.
Our first story below, written by Mark Kennedy, shows just how poignantly a story can freeze time, and how meaningful that can become decades later.
