An eighth-grade Ringgold (Georgia) Middle School student has been taken into custody and charged with making terroristic threats, according to a news release from the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Office.

The threats against the school were posted on social media late Wednesday night and appeared to have been inspired by online threats made in another post earlier that evening at around 7 p.m.

It’s unclear whether the original threat was intended for an online audience in Ringgold or for a similarly named city in another state, but the post quickly circulated in the Catoosa County community and was investigated by the sheriff’s office.

Investigators determined the original threat was not credible and the Ringgold student was later interviewed and confirmed to not be a credible threat to the school, staff or other students.

The student was charged Thursday morning and is being held at the Youth Detention Center in Dalton.
