A man was arrested Tuesday evening after making threats and firing a gun into the air in front of a Walmart in Cleveland, Tennessee, according to a news release from the Bradley County Sheriff's Office.

At 5:06 p.m., Cleveland police officers were dispatched after a report of a possible active shooter at the Walmart at 2300 Treasury Drive in Cleveland. Bradley County Sheriff's Office deputies also responded to provide backup for the Cleveland officers, according to the news release.

A caller had reported to 911 that a man with a gun was making threats of violence toward the store. He fired the gun into the air and then got into a white SUV in front of the grocery entrance of the Walmart, police said. Other callers also reported to 911 that a gunshot was fired by the man in front of the Walmart, the release stated.

Bradley County deputies arrived and found the suspect, Doyle R. Herron, in a white SUV parked in the fire lane facing the grocery entrance of the Walmart. The man still had the gun in his hand when deputies arrived but later put it on top of the SUV, the release stated.

Herron exited the vehicle and refused all further commands from officers. A physical altercation took place when deputies tried to detain Herron, and a stun gun was deployed but had little effect on him. Herron was finally taken into custody after more officers arrived to help subdue him, according to the release.

Herron is being charged with reckless endangerment, two counts of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and aggravated assault against a first responder.
