MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) - A family-owned Alabama cabinet company plans to invest nearly $17 million in an expansion project that will create 415 jobs over five years.

Ashland-based Wellborn Cabinet Inc. will build a 250,000-square-foot facility in Oxford to begin production of a new kitchen and bath cabinetry product, the state Department of Commerce said Tuesday in a news release.

Construction is set to begin next spring. The facility, to be built on 60 acres (24 hectares) at Oxford West Industrial Park in Talladega County, should begin operations in the fall of 2024.

Commerce Secretary Greg Canfield, in announcing the project, called Wellborn "a landmark business in east Alabama."

"It's always great news when a successful Alabama company like Wellborn Cabinet decides to launch a significant growth project right here at home," Canfield said.
