The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of an inmate who died Tuesday at the Silverdale Detention Center.
“The name of the deceased inmate in reference to Tuesday’s in-custody death is Marvin Johnston,” J. Matt Lea the spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, said in a Thursday news release. “As this is an ongoing investigation, no further details are available.”

Johnston, 40, was arrested in March and charged with one count of speeding, one count of evading arrest, one count of reckless endangerment and one count of traffic control signal violation. In April, Johnston was charged with one count of possession of contraband in a penal institution, according to the Hamilton County Criminal Court records.
As previously reported by the Chattanooga Times Free Press, the Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday that officials were investigating the death of an inmate, without identifying the person.
Hamilton County emergency medical personnel responded to a medical call at the detention center at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and transported Johnston to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the release.
At the request of the Hamilton County District Attorney’s Office, Johnston’s death is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Office.
“Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be turned over to the district attorney for her review,” the release stated.
