Creative build
My closest neighbor is building a home out of shipping containers. He began with three 20-foot-long units stacked on top of each other and roofed with sheet metal. I’ll admit, in the early stages of his construction – between the containers’ sharp metal edges and the company names stamped on their sides – the structure felt far from homey.
But then he painted it white, replaced an entire wall with glass and turned its flat top into a deck overlooking his corner of Polk County.
Indeed, it’s opened my eyes to the transformative power of creative building. And our first story below will open yours, in which we share two renovation projects in Chattanooga that recently won state awards. One involves shipping containers.
