As we head into year three of COVID-19 …

COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations across the Chattanooga region continue to trend in a positive direction, which is great news. But as we celebrate the potential for brighter days ahead, I think it’s important to remember that the health care system will continue to struggle for the foreseeable future. COVID-19 isn’t going away, and even if our last major surge of the pandemic is behind us (which we can’t say for sure), rebuilding an exhausted and depleted health care workforce will take time. So please, let’s all try to stay healthy, prevent unnecessary disease and show the same gratitude for our health care workers as we did in March 2020.

Stay healthy,

– Elizabeth Fite, health care reporter, efite@timesfreepress.com
