A Chattanooga man resisting arrest left two city police officers injured Friday evening, according to the department.
Shortly after 7:30 p.m., officers responded to a call of a disorder involving a weapon at a residence in the 4900 block of Jeffery Lane, according to an affidavit from the department.
Delonte Anthony Shepherd, 28, was allegedly in possession of a black and silver firearm inside a silver purse, according to witnesses, the affidavit said. Shepherd began fighting and resisting the first officer to arrive at the scene, according to the affidavit.
Two officers arrived to assist, when Shepherd "began flailing his body and began biting down" on one officer's hand, according to the affidavit.
During the altercation, a second officer's hand suffered an injury to their ring finger, "causing immediate swelling," said the affidavit.
Once Shepherd was arrested, police found a .38 silver and black Bryco inside the silver purse he was allegedly carrying, which had been hidden in a grill behind the residence.
Shepherd was booked into the Silverdale Detention Center on two counts of aggravated assault, which had a bond of $4,000, one count of resisting arrest and one count of possession of a firearm, which had a bond of $2,800. He is free on bond.
Shepherd is due to appear before Hamilton County General Sessions Judge Gerald Webb on July 20.
