Two police officers were injured - one was bitten - while arresting an armed suspect Friday evening, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Police Department.

Police responded to a call around 7:45 p.m. about a person with a gun causing a disorder at a house on the 4900 block of Jeffrey Lane.

Officers found Delonte Shepherd, 28, behind the residence and he became combative, the release said.

One officer attempted to take Shepherd into custody but was severely bitten. Another officer attempted to assist the first officer and had her finger injured.

Shepherd was eventually taken into custody by police and a firearm was located in his bag, according to the news release.

The injured police officers and Shepherd were evaluated by Emergency Medical Services.

Both officers were taken to a local hospital for treatment and Shepherd was treated and arrested for assault, among other charges, the release said.
