Chattanooga's Bode boutique hotel adds Dawn coffee shop and Dusk cocktail bar

A downtown boutique hotel in Chattanooga is adding new food and drink options for overnight guests and local patrons from Dawn to Dusk.

The Bode hotel, which opened in 2019 in the former Clemons Lofts apartment complex at Chestnut and 8th streets, recently added a cocktail lounge known as Dusk in its first-floor entry area and by July 15 will add a coffee bar known as Dawn on the other part of the first-floor entrance.

Zion Freeman, brand manager for the Irvine, California-based based investment group that owns the Bode, said in a phone interview Thursday the additions are designed to better utilize the first-floor space in the 6-story building, create a more inviting environment and offer more food and beverage options for hotel guests and downtown patrons.

"We hope to roll out other Dawn and Dusk locations at some of our other hotels, but Chattanooga is the first facility to get these new additions, and we think they will be a great addition for our guests and for downtown workers and visitors looking for a coffee or breakfast treat in the morning or a cocktail at night," Freeman said. "The whole concept is like a summer campfire or nostalgic road trip with an REI store theme at Dusk."

Dusk opened a few weeks ago with seating for about 30 persons, and it is open from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Dawn will be open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. and include co-working space for people to work while they are enjoying their coffee and breakfast and lunch selections, Freeman said.

Dawn will offer a variety of coffees along with such food entries as granola and fruit bowls, breakfast sandwiches and avocado toast. Lunch items include three selections of its campfire hot dogs, along with such items as guacamole and chips and a selection of nacho entrees, Freeman said. Dusk is a cocktail bar with a variety of mixed drinks and beers, along with the lunch items available through the evening.

TMC Group in Irvine, California, which bought the 92-year-old Clemons building last year for $10 million, opened the Bode as a boutique hotel with one- two- and three-bedroom suites to cater to family and other downtown visitors. Located at the edge of the West Village, the Bode is seeing increased occupancy coming out of the pandemic, Freeman said.

"People are eager to get out and travel again, and we're expecting a strong summer," Freeman said. "The market has definitely been picking up in Chattanooga, and we've seen a huge jump and pretty much maximum occupancy in Nashville."

TMC Hospitality operates Bode hotels in Nashville and Chattanooga and a Drift hotel in Mexico.
