The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Friday shooting involving a Chattanooga police officer, according to a news release.

An initial investigation of the scene indicates the police officer was struck by a fleeing vehicle at the 700 block of North Germantown Road, and during the course of the incident, shots were fired. Officials did not provide a time the incident happened or state who fired the shots.

The officer was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. No other injuries were reported, the release states.

The sheriff’s office did not identify the officer and instead referred questions of that nature to the Chattanooga Police Department.

Once the ongoing investigation is complete, findings will be released to the Hamilton County District Attorney’s Office.
