Chattanooga-area weekend events bring cars, zombies, outdoor concerts

An original horror film, a Shakespearean ghost story and a zombie hunt are on the weekend calendar as the Chattanooga Motorcar Festival rolls into town. Here's a chronology.


ARTS

-- ClearStory Arts, 1673 S. Holtzclaw Ave., will open an exhibit of "spooky fun art" with a reception 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday. "Art To Die For" features works in various mediums, from woodworking to fiber arts. The show runs through Nov. 5. clearstoryarts.com

-- Family Food Truck Friday, an opportunity for dinner and a movie in the great outdoors, is Friday at the Cleveland Bradley County Public Library, 795 Church St. NE, Cleveland, Tenn. -- Back Alley Productions, a theater company, will screen an original horror film, "Aparoksha," at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Mars Theatre, 117 N. Chattanooga Ave., LaFayette, Ga. The film, which features some of Back Alley's stage actors, explores "a sinister secret in the woods ... that comes to haunt the lives of those who trespass on its dark origins," according to producers. The screening includes popcorn and an introduction by director Bryson Burnette. Admission is free, but reservations are requested. BAPshows.com


HAUNTS

-- Dread Hollow, a Ruby Falls haunted attraction at 321 Browns Ferry Road, is offering the first of two special events Thursday. Girls Night Out, for women and their "ride or die" besties, includes RIP treatment in the GNO lounge, TikTok challenges and a meet-and-greet with a Dread Hollow resident, along with treats, including coupons to local businesses and a digital photo to remember the night. -- Ultimate Zombie Hunt starts this weekend inside Bradley Square Mall, 200 Paul Huff Parkway, Cleveland, Tenn., in a space next to Kinder Music and the National Guard office. Hunters armed with GellyBall blasters, which shoot a softer paintball, will encounter live zombies in a labyrinth of rooms while searching for clues to solve a mystery. Hours are 6-9 p.m. Thursdays, 5-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday, 5-10 p.m. Sundays and 5 p.m.-midnight Halloween, which is closing night. Cost is $20. You must reserve a time. $20. UltimateZombieHunt.com

-- Boo in the Zoo, a "merry not scary" celebration of Halloween, starts this weekend at Chattanooga Zoo, 301 N. Holtzclaw Ave. The event features family-friendly themed decor, trick-or-treat stations, scavenger hunt and costume contests. Hours are 4-8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, plus Oct. 21-22, 28-29. — Ringgold's Haunted Depot opens this weekend at the Ringgold Depot, 155 Depot St., Ringgold, Ga. Attractions include a $15 walk-through haunt, a $7 ghost tour and a $5 hayride; or do all three for $23. -- Chattanooga Hip-Hop Week, a performance and networking event for local musicians, is underway at various venues around town. A highlight is a three-day Hip-Hop Summit with artists, producers and other experts in the industry convening at 1 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center, 200 E. M.L. King Blvd. A kickoff reception for the summit is scheduled 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Waterhouse Pavilion at Miller Plaza, 850 Market St., followed by a Hype Magazine Showcase at 8:30 p.m. The Hunter Museum of American Art, 10 Bluff View, will host participants 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday at its latest exhibition, "Memories & Inspiration," featuring works by Black artists.
