Willow
Artist: Alan Shuptrine
Medium: Gold leaf and sgraffito panel
Lookout Mountain artist Alan Shuptrine is a nationally renowned master craftsman. Although he is best known for his realistic and detailed watercolor paintings, his creative disciplines also include the centuries-old art of water gilding with genuine gold leaf, wood carving and sgraffito.
Sgraffito, which means “to scratch” in Italian, is a technique used to decorate pottery. His gilded and sgraffito panel piece “Willow” was recently selected for the exhibition Coastal Treasures at Florida’s Vero Beach Museum of Art. This will be the museum’s inaugural exhibition of living contemporary artists.
