Dynamite Baker’s Dozen No. 8: McCallie quarterback Jay St-Hilaire in line for huge season

Jay St-Hilaire and his teammates have been working all offseason to help McCallie get back on top of the TSSAA Division II-AAA football ranks.

The Blue Tornado narrowly missed out on an opportunity to win the program’s fourth straight state championship last season, when they lost 28-27 at Montgomery Bell Academy in the semifinals.

However, St-Hilaire was nothing short of sensational in his first season in Chattanooga. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound, dual-threat quarterback from Canada led an attack that averaged 36 points per game to help McCallie post double-digit wins for the fourth time in the last five years.

Defenses couldn’t lock in on a single player as St-Hilaire, who committed to Vanderbilt in February, spread the wealth and six receivers had more than 150 yards last season, while five had more than 200 yards and scored at least three touchdowns. He could be in store for a huge senior campaign this fall as the Blue Tornado return three of their top receivers from 2022, including Enrique Jaimes Leclair, who had 592 yards on 27 catches, with six going for scores.

St-Hilaire is No. 8 on the Times Free Press Dynamite Baker’s Dozen countdown of the Chattanooga area’s top prep football players going into the 2023 season.
