A former Hamilton County teacher has been arrested and charged with aggravated statutory rape, according to jail records.
Casey McGrath, 28, who was suspended without pay March 31 pending an investigation into inappropriate conduct, no longer works for Hamilton County Schools, spokesperson Steve Doremus said in an email. Doremus declined to further comment citing the pending investigation.
McGrath, who taught 10th grade geometry at Central High School since 2020, was voted Teacher of the Month in October 2021, according to the district’s publication The Central Digest.
Information on when McGrath is due to appear in court was not available, nor was the affidavit detailing the allegations against the former teacher from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
McGrath is the second Hamilton County teacher this year to be arrested and charged amid allegations involving sexual misconduct.
Duane Sanders Jr., a former first grade teacher at Wallace A. Elementary School, was arrested and indicted in March on 10 counts of child sexual abuse.
